LEGAL PROTECTION OFFICERS (MULTIPLE POSITIONS)
M.A.P is currently looking to recruit Legal Protection Officers to join its team. Selected candidates will be part of M.A.P’s legal team and their tasks shall include:
  • Assisting with client intake sessions, which involve registering new refugees, and providing general information regarding UNHCR’s refugee status determination process etc.;
  • Conducting research on issues of refugee law, on clients’ countries of origin, as well as relevant case law and legal provisions;
  • Drafting client testimonies and legal submissions;
  • Accompanying clients for their registration/refugee status determination interviews at UNHCR;
  • Conducting research for reports/projects on issues related to refugee protection;
  • Assisting in M.A.P’s advocacy and training activities;
  • Maintaining office databases and drafting office correspondence; 
  • Assisting in running the internship/volunteer program; and
  • Other related tasks.

CRITERIA FOR RECRUITMENT:
  • Indian citizen;
  • Graduate of Law only;
  • Willingness to travel within New Delhi; and
  • Preference will be given to those with prior experience working with refugees/migrants/IDPs or other marginalized groups and/or vulnerable clients.

TIMELINES:
  • The deadline for receiving applications is 23rd November, 2018;
  • Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by 30th November, 2018;
  • Candidates will be expected to appear for a written examination on 7th December 2018;
  • Candidates shortlisted following the examination will be invited for a personal interview on 14th December, 2018; and
  • The selected candidate will be expected to begin on 2nd January, 2019.

NOTE:
  • The contract will initially be for a period of 12 months, and will be extendable subject to availability of funding and the candidate’s performance; and
  • The selected candidate will be paid a consultancy fee of INR 40,000 per month; TDS will be deducted as per prescribed laws.

Internships

Caseworker

M.A.P is presently looking for both short-term and long-term volunteers for assisting the legal team with casework. The tasks shall include:


Responsibilities

1.  Assisting with client intake sessions, conducting intake interviews and providing legal counselling. 

2.  Conducting research on clients’ countries of origin, relevant case law and legal provisions.

3.  Drafting client testimonies and legal submissions.

4.  Conducting research for reports/projects on issues related to protection.

5.  Maintaining office databases and drafting office correspondence.

 

Criteria for recruitment

1. Recent graduates or students of Law or International Relations.

2. Willingness to work 35-40 hours a week for a period of 1-6 months in New Delhi.

3. Willingness to travel within New Delhi.


Preference will be given to those with experience working with refugees/migrants/IDPs or other vulnerable populations.
