Aswathy holds a law degree from Law College Dehradun, Uttaranchal University, and a Master’s in Criminal Law from Army Institute of Law, Mohali. She has over four years of experience with a focus on criminal law and access to justice frameworks. Her work and research are centred on gender based violence and systemic issues within the criminal justice system. 

Prior to joining MAP, Aswathy served as a Law Clerk-cum-Research Assistant with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA), where her work involved contributing to research, policy design, and capacity building of paralegal volunteers, panel lawyers etc. Further, she has contributed to a number of key institutional initiatives targeting gaps in access to justice frameworks. During this period, she also contributed to Issues 1–12 of The Legal Administrator, the newsletter released by the National Centre for Law & Administration (NCLA) at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), covering judgements engaging with questions of governance and legal administration. 

Between 2021-2022, she was a practicing advocate in Delhi in the field of criminal, civil and service law. 

At MAP, she is the State Coordinator for Uttarakhand, supporting the organisation with institutional engagements in the State.
